The Feminist Standpoint: Toward a Specific Feminist Historical Materialism
”The different understandings of power put forward by women who have theorized about power implicitly pose the question of the extent to which gender is a worldview-structuring experience. In this chapter [the authors] explore some of the epistemological consequences of claiming that women’s lives differ systematically and structurally from those of men. In particular, [the authors] suggest that, like the lives of proletarians according to Marxian theory, women’s lives make available a particular and privileged vantage point on male supremacy, a vantage point that can ground a powerful critique of the phallocratic institutions and ideology that constitute the capitalist form of patriarchy.”
