Reflections of Lesbian Culture
Reflections of Lesbian Culture
In 1976, with support by the Los Angeles League for the Advancement of Lesbianism in the Arts, Anne Phillips and Marguerite Tupper Elliot hosted a cultural event and show at the Woman's Building titled “Reflections of Lesbian Culture.” The pair created the first lesbian-centered show at the Woman's Building, to increase the visibility of lesbian feminist art. They “selected work that in some way reflected a lesbian and/or feminist consciousness. As [they] did not have a set definition as to what [they] thought lesbian art should look like, the work [they] selected varied over a wide range of attitudes and media.”
