P_ssy Party
”P_ssy Party is an incubator for queer and women DJs and club culture affiliates, based in Johannesburg, South Africa. Historically arranged around a monthly club night founded by Phatstoki and Rosie Parade at Braamfontein's iconic pub-cum-club Kitchener's from May 2016 - March 2020, the movement has since grown to incorporate regular DJ and production workshops, including tours with guest mentors Ikonika and Shy One; practical support for new and established DJs and club culture practitioners within their extended community; stage curation for events such as Feel Good Series, Zakifo, Nyege Nyege and Afropunk; tour curation across South Africa; consulting on safer space practices and principles with clubs and festivals; production support for their sister events including Vogue Nights Jozi and Same Sex Saturday; and more recently, the curation of virtual events encompassing the extended needs of their community under covid-19 lockdown, as well as a venture in a daytime, sober ‘gathering’ to explore their community outside of the nightlife.”
With Kitchener's closing in March 2024, P_ssy Party Academy is now based at Mamakashaka and Friends in Braamfontein, where they also host a monthly 'kittens link up' called Play/Paws where Academy graduates can cut their teeth, and music lovers can come together in a safer space to connect and grow as a community.
