Njabala Foundation

Njabala Foundation

Njabala is a multi-faceted campaign sourcing inspiration from the popular Ugandan myth of Njabala to facilitate conversations on womanhood. Founded by Martha Kazungu in 2021, the organization curates periodic exhibitions and organizes a public program of activities aimed at creating safe spaces for female artists to thrive and blossom. To facilitate visibility for women artists, Njabala Foundation in various ways campaigns against gender inequality in the art world by organizing art exhibitions and events exclusively dedicated to highlighting the work of women artists. Our work embodies contemporary responses primarily by women artists through exhibitions, research, mentorship and community engagement. We believe that artistic forms of expression can challenge and deconstruct cultural and intellectual legacies as well as inspire alternative thinking for problem -solving.
