Monash University XYX Lab

Monash University XYX Lab

The Monash University XYX Lab is a team of experienced design researchers exploring gender-sensitive design practices and theory. Founding director Professor Nicole Kalms and co-director Professor Gene Bawden lead a team of interdisciplinary researchers. Their work operates at the intersection of gender, identity, urban space and advocacy. Through their gender-sensitive research the XYX Lab bring together planners, policy makers, local government and stakeholders to make tangible the experiences of underrepresented communities in urban space and planning. The XYX Lab is grounded in feminist and queer theory and activated through real-world projects. Equal parts qualitative and quantitative research, the XYX Lab team work to collect and analyse urban experiences in order to generate deeper understanding and support our design projects.
