Milan Gender Atlas

Milan Gender Atlas

”Milan Gender Atlas is a research project, commissioned by Milano Urban Center and developed by the non-profit Sex & the City, that investigates the city of Milan from a gender perspective. The project is triggered by the need to explore a field of investigation that intertwines urban studies and gender studies. This work aims to deconstruct Milan’s contemporary urban space through specific lenses of observation that allow us to read the responses - both top-down and bottom-up - the city offers to the needs of women and gender minorities. The result is a theoretical and practical tool for planning environments that are more inclusive and attentive to the needs of the multiple subjects and the different bodies that inhabit urban space. The Milan Gender Atlas is conceived not so much as a complete and definitive mapping of spaces and subjects from a gendered perspective, but as an open and in-progress critical organism, ready to embrace the multiplicity of visions that are embodied in the space. Milan Gender Atlas has been selected by EIGE (European Institute for Gender Equality) among the 10 best practices on Gender Mainstreaming for the European Green Deal.”
