"Mariam Issoufou Architects, formerly atelier masōmī, is an architecture and research firm guided by the belief that architecture is an important tool for social change. masōmī means the inception in Hausa.” Their work “tackle(s) public, cultural, residential, commercial and urban design projects” and “investigates the power of design to elevate, give dignity and better people’s quality of life.” Their projects build upon extensive research and focus on collaboration with local masons and artisans. Projects have included ones that pay tribute to traditional Nigerian architecture and honor middle-eastern scholars.
