Hunkertime

Hunkertime

The set of wrapped ladders within Harmony Hammond's sculpture, “Hunkertime,” suggests “the idea of community through the way ladders can't stand alone but need to be supported; in this case, by each other. These ladder like structures have been wrapped with fabric, old rags and cloths, from her own friends. The way they lean together evokes the huddling, or “hunkering” as the title suggests, of a community of individuals. Using her friends' fabrics made it even more personal. [Hammond] said 'It meant that I was literally putting all these women in the work.'”
