Histórias das Mulheres, Histórias Feministas

Histórias das Mulheres: Artistas até 1900 (Women's Histories: Artists Before 1900), curated by Julia Bryan-Wilson, Lilia Moritz Schwarcz and Mariana Leme, and Histórias Feministas: Artistas depois de 2000 (Feminist Histories: Artists After 2000), curated by Isabella Rjeille, were two parallel, complementary exhibitions organized in dialogue at Sao Paulo Museum of Art (MASP) in 2019. In Women's Histories, the exhibition displayed works dating from the 1st to the 19th centuries, and emphasized "a dialogue between paintings and textiles—after all, paintings are often also made on fabric. Featuring 60 paintings, 2 drawings and 34 textiles from different eras and national origins, Women’s Histories highlight[ed] works that go beyond traditional categories of the fine arts, seeking to offer broader and more plural perspectives." Feminist Histories featured "works by 30 artists and collectives that emerged in the 21st century and which work from feminist perspectives, broadening a debate that gained visibility in the visual arts in the period spanning from the 1960s through the 1980s, and which continues to intersect struggles, narratives and knowledges."
