Hijas de Cuauhtémoc

Hijas de Cuauhtémoc

”The Hijas de Cuauhtémoc movement demanded political participation and gender equality... Women not only resisted and were an active part of the Mexican Revolution, but also fought to be recognized....The Hijas de Cuauhtémoc movement was created around 1910 and its main position was to belong to the opposition and strongly criticize the dictatorship of Porfirio Díaz.” Although women's suffrage was not achieved until 1953, the collective is “remembered for being the prelude to the current feminist movement and to the women who put their bodies to leave the organization for women's suffrage as a precedent... The Mexican Revolution was not only a warlike conflict, it was also a feminist fight for freedom and the recognition of women as political people.” (Translated from Spanish)
