FX Beauties

FX Beauties

FX Beauties is an ongoing collaborative project edited by architect and educator Christine Bjerke. Dedicated to the informal Japanese female Forex (foreign exhange market) trading collective, the FX Beauties, the work explores decentralized platforms, as well as historical gendered environments and spaces within social and financial networks. Bjerke asserts that "the FX Beauties suggest an architecture that reflects on shifting societal positions within economic realms on global and local scales. Navigating networks in constant fluctuation, the women of the Japanese collective are an example of how the decentralized and digital trading of money can be part of shifting who has access to economic systems. With these shifts, the women nuance the established link between capital and space as well as redefining the domestic realm from where the financial trading is often taking place."
