taller Creando Sin Encargos (tCSE), established in 2012, is an all-women design colectiva based in Urbana-Champaign and San Juan. Focused on socio-spatial design for urban justice, tCSE employs a horizontal methodology that prioritizes the social aspects of architecture and design from an intersectional, decolonial, and critical perspective. The colectiva is known for developing co-design/build workshops called Arquitecturas Colectivas in communities across Puerto Rico and beyond. In 2022, tCSE was honored as the only Caribbean practice selected for the 13th International Architecture Biennale of São Paulo.
Led by Yazmín M. Crespo Claudio, PhD, Omayra Rivera, PhD, and Irmaris Santiago, tCSE's mission is to investigate, construct, and support architecture that promotes equity in all scenarios. They emphasize embracing COUNTERnarratives, particularly within the context of the Caribbean. The colectiva is dedicated to documenting, investigating, and disclosing processes and spatial practices through various platforms, including publications, conferences, and biennales.
