Dialogue
Dialogue
Dialogue was an exhibition by artist Xiao Lu set to take place in the China Avant-Garde exhibition at the National Art Museum of China, Beijing. The installation itself “comprises two life-size aluminum alloy telephone booths, a mirror, a pedestal, a red telephone, and cement paving stones,” containing silkscreens of a female and male representing Xiao's performance art piece where she fired two bullets in a phonebooth in Tiananmen square four months prior to the incident at a time when carrying firearms was banned. Despite previous political comments, Xiao Lu has stated that it was conceptualized out of the frustration and suffocation she felt when “I felt I could not communicate with men.”
