Cyborg Manifesto

Cyborg Manifesto

Published by Donna Haraway in 1985 in the Socialist Review, the Cyborg Manifesto is an essay created “in an effort to build an ironic political myth faithful to feminism, socialism, and materialism.” The Manifesto creates the 'cyborg' myth as a way of describing a “post-gender world” of “transgressed boundaries,” including those of “human-animal” and “physical and non-physical.” Haraway challenges traditional ideologies of feminism and calls for the hybridization of thought and practice away from socially-created identities. The text created a shift in political and societal mindsets and is integral to feminist posthumanist theory.
