Chipko Movement
Chipko Movement
The Chipko Movement is a non-violent resistance that began in 1973 and aimed to protect India's forests. It was led mainly by women from rural areas, “using Mahatma Gandhi's method of satyagraha, or non-violent resistance”. It has since spread over India while staying largely local and autonomously organized.
